John Fraine

John Fraine Founder and CEO

John Fraine, founder and CEO of Building Solutions, is an expert in the remodeling industry, with a 37-year history in Northern California. In the early 2000s, John  pioneered a new model of integrated design and build services for Building Solutions, which now maintains an average of 10 to 15 simultaneous design and construction projects at any given time for residential and commercial clients throughout the Bay Area. Building Solutions offers clients a unique ‘Budget-Informed Design’ process through it’s proprietary costing system that provides highly accurate construction cost projections throughout the design process.

John’s experience with decades of projects and expertise in the Value Engineering of any given project give him a unique capacity to determine the viability of remodels, develop design solutions for maximum value, and execute construction with thorough quality control. John is a public presenter, columnist and blogger addressing his specialty of Value Engineering and the many aspects of the Design-Build field. John is a team leader with a collaborative approach, and has developed a company culture that emphasizes communication, transparency, advocacy, and an integration of all systems for maximum efficiency through the entire design-build process.

On the weekends, you might find John hiking the trails of Marin, scuba diving in Monterey, listening to his extensive music collection, and taking his BMW for a spin.

Crystal McLeod

Crystal McLeod Controller

Crystal McLeod has been working with Building Solutions since 2004. She implemented the move from cash-based to accrual-based accounting, developed the entire client billing system and has been responsible for payroll and budgets as well as all the day to day accounting. After graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara, she set up her own company and has been supporting small businesses in setup, training, bookkeeping and financial analysis for over 20 years. Crystal has found passion for being part of a team that is creating beautiful homes.

Outside of keeping our accounts and financial records in check, Crystal enjoys dance, art, local cuisine, gardening and interior design.

Shawn Berry

Shawn Berry General Manager

Shawn has worked with BSI founder John Fraine for over 20 years, beginning as a carpenter’s assistant. Shawn is the General Manager, in charge of all Field Operations for Building Solutions. Shawn began as carpenters apprentice to John Fraine, then became a project manager and then worked as a Field Operations Manager for the past 16 years proving adept at Shawn is currently pursuing a degree in structural engineering. On the weekends you might find him hitting the trails on his mountain bike, kayaking in the bay, and following his favorite sports teams.

Jason Baggs Dir. Entitlement, Project Manager, IT Guru

Jason Keith Baggs, a licensed General Contractor, draftsman and computer IT professional, champions the idea that you can live and work in a resource-efficient, healthy, and beautiful space. Jason has been in the construction industry, specializing in Residential Remodeling and New Home Design/Construction for the past 15 years utilizing CAD and BIM systems for Design/Build Construction.

As the current Director of Entitlement at Building Solutions, Jason is applying his extensive experience in drafting and construction, by working directly with city inspectors and planning departments to achieve permits and legalization for all projects. In addition, with a concentration on custom residential work Jason has become recognized as a true craftsman of custom residences with a hands-on approach in Project Management. Philosophically, Jason ascribes to the principle that all projects are unique and therefore no project can have the same solution, but his end goal is always the same – a beautiful project and a delighted client. When Jason is not in the field chasing down permits and managing projects, he enjoys practicing archery with his kids, working on his car, enjoying the great outdoors and building his extensive media collection.
